We are seeking a highly goal-oriented, entrepreneurial, and motivated individual to tackle the role of Sr. Applications Scientist. This position requires in depth knowledge of the Clinical Research market and an understanding of market drivers, workflows, and challenges. The right candidate will work as a team with Market Development Managers, Product Managers, Sales, and R&D, ultimately playing a role in our scientific direction within the Clinical Research market.
This position will design and perform method development for applications in the Clinical Research market. The position requires extensive hands on experience with LC-MS/MS systems, preferably SCIEX mass spectrometers. The right candidate will have excellent analytical problem-solving skills as well as the ability to work with customers, sales, and marketing.
Your technical knowledge and vision in customer-facing scenarios and your representation in industry conferences will enhance our organization’s technical presence in the industry. The individual will propose and deliver oral presentations on the use of liquid chromatography in the context of different industry workflows and should be expected to assist in supporting customers and sales with technical challenges related to these areas. The candidate will need to be able to work in a fast-paced environment within a lean organization and must be willing to roll up their sleeves to ensure the job gets completed.
Duties and responsibilities:
In depth knowledge of industry trends, challenges, and needs
Represent Phenomenex in front of key customers, at tradeshows, and via seminars and other trainings.
High, working level knowledge of analytical methods, techniques, and workflows from Clinical Research work environments.
Ability to independently research, develop, and present solution-oriented separation and sample preparation methods for “hot areas” based on Phenomenex technology and products.
Work with R&D, Sales and Marketing to provide input for relevant content for brochures, website, and seminars.
Effectively lead application development projects including proper planning, resource allocation, control and completion.
Aid in the trouble shooting and technical support of customers and distributors worldwide.
Experience operating and maintaining LC-MS/MS systems (principally SCIEX).
Experience with sample preparation techniques such as Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) is highly preferred.
Maintain detailed, accurate, legible records of all experiments, and graph all relevant trend data along with the appropriate controls and blanks.
Maintain all instruments and equipment in excellent condition, keep all work areas neat and clean, and follow all safety procedures without exception.
Work cross-functionally with R+D, Sales, and Operations to support the execution of projects and manage the existing portfolio of products.
Collaborate with colleagues in Sales and Marketing to generate technically-sound and practical marketing literature that can be used to drive new business opportunities (print and web-based).
Knowledge, skills and experience:
B.S. in Chemistry or life science with 7 years of relevant HPLC and/or LC-MS/MS experience, M.S. in Chemistry or life science with 5 years HPLC and/or LC-MS/MS experience, or Ph.D. in Chemistry/ Analytical Chemistry with 3 years of HPLC and/or LC-MS/MS experience.
Prior experience working in a Clinical Research laboratory is a requirement.
Experience developing LC-MS/MS, HPLC-UV, UHPLC-UV, and other assays (ideally also involving sample preparation) for Clinical Research market.
Experience in complex troubleshooting.
Excellent customer-facing skills and experience are vital.
Ability to lead teams and assist with internal training and troubleshooting.
Should be able to interpret scientific data including chromatograms, Mass spec data, quantitative results and effectively communicate it to large groups. Strong presentation skills (e.g. PowerPoint) are essential.
