The Spectroscopy and Mass Spectrometry Branch of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) in College Park, Maryland seeks a temporary researcher with a Doctoral degree to participate in our food safety research program. To support its mission, the FDA is developing and implementing non-targeted screening approaches using liquid chromatography/high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC/HR-MS) for food safety purposes. The selected candidate will assist in the development and evaluation of these methods to evaluate the chemical content of complex sample types.  Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Computer Science, or a related field.  Desired experience includes LC/HR-MS data acquisition and processing, metabolomics, molecular networking, database/library curation, LC retention time prediction, semi-quantitation of unknowns, artificial intelligence/machine learning, and/or Compound Discoverer node development/programming ability.  U.S. citizenship, permanent resident status, or a valid J1 Visa is required (F1 with OPT is acceptable until a J1 is obtained). Applicants must have been living in the United States for at least a total of 3 out of the past 5 years and pass a background check. The start date is negotiable. Salary is dependent upon experience.
