The Role:

Moderna is seeking an Analytical Development Scientist with a strong background in mass spectrometry (particularly LC/MS) analysis of biomolecules (mRNA, proteins/peptides, lipids, glycans, etc.). This position will primarily focus on developing state-of-the-art methods to characterize various biomolecules associated with the production and testing of mRNA vaccines and therapeutics.

Here’s What You’ll Do:

• Develop mass spec methods to characterize nucleic acids, proteins, lipids, small molecule metabolites, and other biomolecules
• Develop/adapt/optimize analytical methods for increased robustness, reduced operator dependence, and to enable GMP method transferability as needed; train appropriate personnel in their use (both internally and externally)
• Work closely with other Technical Development teams to support raw material testing, process development, and degradant analysis.
• Author and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) associated with MS test methods as needed
• Contribute to departmental project goals within the team and across the Technical Development dept.
• Work independently with minimal supervision and direction
   

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:

PhD with 0-4 post-graduate experience in analytical development
At least 5 years of demonstrated hands-on experience with mass spectrometry, preferably LC/MS and high-resolution mass spectrometry
Experience with biological sample handling is preferred.
Experience with bioinformatic programming is preferred.
Willingness to learn new concepts and challenge boundaries; adaptability to change
Organization and attention to detail; ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Strong interpersonal skills with an eagerness to work with and support colleagues in other departments
Excellent written and oral English language skills
Demonstrated ability to lead cross functional teams and deliver results with minimal supervision
Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
