SCIEX: Introduction to Product Management Leadership Rotation Program
Relocation available for this position.

Essential Duties, Critical Success Factors, Responsibilities, Authorities and Required Interactions:

Want to learn how to translate your skills from the lab to a commercial setting? Interested in what roles in the industry exist other than walking the halls as a sales representative? Want to help design and build instrumentation for the scientists of tomorrow? Join our team!

This position is similar to a post-doc, just with a focus on learning the ins and outs of a commercial organization as opposed to a new area of science. In this role, you will select several different rotations over the first 18-24 months through different parts of the product management organization with the goal of teaching and helping you to translate the skills from your graduate degree into commercial abilities. This is very much on-the-job training! You will be assigned projects, trained on how to work through them, and your results will be used to drive product development.

We are looking for people with an interest to learn new things and expand their capabilities. The goal for the program is at the end, you are capable of being a phenomenal product manager.

Training will include:

Learn to do market analysis. What markets are out there? You are likely familiar with that academic market. There are a lot of other much larger markets. Learn how to understand them quickly, understand the needs of the scientists who work in them, and then translate that into the products they will need in the future and how many of them they will buy.
Learn how to resolve how much scientists and companies are willing to pay for new products and what those products have to do in order to rationalize that price.
Learn how to build a business plan
Experience and interact with the full spectrum of roles within the commercial world. This includes sales, R+D, quality, finance, and service. While passionate about product management for the learning, this exposure enables you to see the other opportunities available.

What does Product management do and why would you want to become one?

Product management is responsible for establishing all product directions for the company. All new products start with a specification document written by a product manager.

Product management develops and drives all the business cases. How many can we sell? To whom? How fast? Why? What will make them buy? Where is the science going and how can we help? These are the kinds of questions this person will be trained to answer and develop a business case for.

Product management oversees the understanding of the market. What are our competitors doing? Why are they doing it? What is their strategy?

Product management is accountable for setting prices. This sounds easy…but is not. Learning the tools and questions that help arrive at the “right” price is part art and part science.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

Master’s degree in life science or equivalent required; Ph.D. strongly preferred.
Authorship of scientific publications preferred
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills, with a high degree of self-motivation and ability to work independently

When you join us, you’ll also be joining Danaher’s global organization, where 69,000 people wake up every day determined to help our customers win. As an associate, you’ll try new things, work hard, and advance your skills with guidance from dedicated leaders, all with the support of powerful Danaher Business System tools and the stability of a tested organization.

Danaher is committed to a diverse and inclusive culture where everyone feels they belong and all voices are heard. We believe in our associates and the unique perspectives they bring to every challenge, which is why we’ll empower you to push the boundaries of what’s possible.

If you’ve ever wondered what’s within you, there’s no better time to find out.
