Chemist II – Research Scientist

 ​A Research Scientist position (Chemist II) is available in Dr. Bryndan Durham’s laboratory at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. Research in the Durham Lab focuses on the molecular ecology and chemistry of marine microbes. The Research Scientist will be primarily responsible for processing and analyzing samples using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS)-metabolomics. In particular, the Research Scientist will analyze samples on high-resolution LC-MS system(s) located in the UF’s Interdisciplinary Center for Biotechnology Research mass spectrometry core facility. Other possible responsibilities include microbial culture, biochemical analysis, lab data administration, maintaining lab safety, orderliness, inventory, and other duties as needed. The Durham Lab is part of the UF Biology Department and the UF Genetics Institute, both of which provide friendly and collegial environments. The Research Scientist will join a collaborative group and work with others who possess knowledge in microbiology, mass spectrometry, genetics, and bioinformatics. While the Research Scientist will be primarily responsible for carrying out projects overseen by Dr. Durham, there will be opportunities to lead independent projects with his/her/their own intellectual and creative contributions. The Research Scientist will also have access to training programs and professional development opportunities. These include, but are not limited to, attending training workshops, mentoring undergraduate students, presenting research at conferences, and writing and publishing manuscripts.
